FAQ
What is the size of an average Grace Matthews transaction?
In a typical Grace Matthews transaction, the business that we are buying or selling has a value between $10 million and $300 million. However, we recently sold a division of a large, multinational client for $5 million, and also advised another client on a $500 million acquisition.
Computing an “average” from this wide range would be misleading, and it would vary considerably from year to year. That our deals vary so widely in value is a reflection of the fact that our client base extends from family-held businesses to Fortune 500 corporations.
Does Grace Matthews have a geographic focus?
No. Most of our projects are in North America, but our reach is international. We regularly represent foreign multinationals on both buy- and sell-side engagements, and many of our sell-side assignments result in negotiations with foreign buyers.
How is Grace Matthews compensated?
When initially engaged, Grace Matthews receives a retainer payment that partially offsets our expenses. However, the bulk of our compensation comes in the form of a success fee that is paid when a transaction closes. This structure is designed to ensure performance: if a deal does not close, we do not get paid!
How does Grace Matthews organize and staff a typical project?
Grace Matthews serves only a limited number of clients at any given time - each transaction and client is important to us.
A senior member of our staff leads and manages every project, and typically is involved in no more than three or four projects at any one time. The deal team is filled out by one or more professionals who provide analytical, financial, and negotiation support. All of our professionals have advanced degrees in finance or business and/or 10+ years of business experience.
